James D. Smith

James D. Smith brings over 50 years of business, professional, community, and church experience to the Graham Powell Foundation Board of Directors. Corporate experience includes Sales Engineer,  Account Executive, Product Manager, and Market Development. He was one of the first African Americans to serve as a Sales Engineer with Westinghouse Power Systems as his first job after college. In addition to his corporate experience, Mr. Smith served in the United States Army as an Infantry Officer, owned three businesses, was a professor at Clayton State University, and was the only African-American to be elected to the Roswell, GA City Council (1986). He is proud of his community and church service. He graduated from North Carolina A&T State University with a BS in Engineering Physics and the University of Chicago with an MBA (with Marketing Concentration).
